Production water in the oil and gas industry usually still contains oil granules called oil content. In large amount, oil content can cause problems such as reduced oil production because of water-borne oil, blockages in rock pores during water injection, and bacteria growing on it. Even worse, it can cause environmental problems and can break local government regulations. Therefore, we need a special treatment to reduce oil content in production water.
The best way to treat it is by using reverse demulsifier, a chemical to break oil emulsion in water. The working principle of the reverse demulsifier is by emulsifying oil molecules so that they get bigger and under certain conditions will be separated from the water phase by gravity. With the addition of a reverse demulsifier, emulsifying oil droplets in water will be faster. Also, it will form a larger oil droplet which makes it easier to separate from the water phase. In other words, this product will reduce the oil content in the water.
